RESEARCH

Choreography is something I have recently fallen in love with over the past two years. As I continue working towards my BFA in Dance at The Ohio State University, I plan on continuing to study and research choreography as well as performance.

MOvING SPAcE

I had my first experience with a small research project as a part of the last assignment in my Creative Technologies class. For this project, titled, MOvING SPAcE we were paired up into groups of two or three. We were instructed to find a space in Sullivant Hall and explore it in a different way. After we determined our space, we were required to film and produce a video of our group members exploring that space, and then create a poster explaining our video and relationship to the space, produce a QR code to put on the poster and post it. For my specific video I chose to use the 3rd floor rotunda in Sullivant. I believe I chose this space because I could see all of the different possibilities that could be explored. The arches, the columns, the railings, and circular floor plan provided the dancers with a lot of different choices for movement. When it came time to shoot my video, I took charge as a "director." Instead of just letting the dancers improv in the space I had a specific vision and made sure that my group members understood it. My other group members took on their videos in a similar way, so the fact that we had a relatively short time frame did not really affect us. We did all however, spend a lot of time on editing. Personally, right when I saw my space I knew how I wanted it to begin and end. I also viewed the space symmetrically from the beginning, which inspired me to instruct the dancers to do some "mirroring" choreography. I did not have an idea what song I was going to use, and what kind of affects on FinalCut Pro I was going to utilize. However, once I uploaded all of my footage and put it in an order that I was pleased with, I was inspired to find a song that matched the movement and use the opacity and layering tools. The song reflects both the movement and the video editing because they both start out simple, but then they get more complex and layering is involved. I really enjoyed this project and I felt that I learned a lot from it and from working with others. A copy of my poster and my video is posted below along with a picture of the 3rd Floor Rotunda.
